Amicci’s

If you live in Inner Harbor East, Fell’s Point, or Little Italy, you should make a date to have dinner or drinks at Little Italy’s Amicci’s .  This is a great casual fare restaurant that is also moderately priced.  For after work, you will find some great appetizers and mixed drinks.  For dinner, you will find Italian cuisine that tastes authentic.  Dinner servings come with a soft bread and you will most likely ask for more.  The house salad is a spicy treat but one that can also be very filling as well.  Personally, I call in for take out and order their lasagna all the time.  I also go there on weekends to have their great drinks which include Grape Sodas and fruit flavored martinis.  If you have a moment, please check out their website.  This is truly a place for the family or a date night.  It has a family atmosphere and you will often see one of the owners and his sister waiting on you personally.

Sarah’s Key

I watched this film a couple of weeks ago at The Charles Theater.  www.thecharles.com If you like history, this would be a good film for you.  Based on a book, Sarah’s Key begins with an American writer in Paris who is assigned to write a story of Paris’ involvement in the arrest and roundup of Jewish families who were then deported to Auschwitz.
Though many people do not realize this is a part of World War II history, it is an unfortunate history lesson.   Unbeknowst to the writer, her family is actually living in an apartment of one of the Jewish families that were rounded up many years ago.   The movie flashes back to the family that lived in her apartment and their deportation which intertwines with scenes of the modern day journalist who is learning the history of the deported Jewish family.  Before the family is rounded up to be taken to a holding facility, the young girl, Sarah, locks her younger brother in a panel within the wall to save him from being rounded up with the family and takes the key wit her.   It is very disheartening to see man’s inhumanity towards man, however, it is a history lesson that is not learned in many textbooks.   I encourage you to watch this movie and I believe you will have the urge to start searching the internet to learn more about Paris’ involvement in the war.

Phillips Restaurant to Move

6.15.11 According to a WJZ newscast, Phillips Restaurant will relocate from the current location in the Inner Harbor to the location previously occupied by the ESPN Zone.  Bubba Gump, a shrimp restaurant which had it’s origins in the “Forrest Gump” movie, will take the lease vacated by Phillips.  You can still have your seafood at the Inner Harbor but it looks like you can have some more shrimp as well.

Chazz A Bronx Original Restaurant Review 6.15.11

The soft opening of this restaurant occurred on June 10, 2011, however, the official grand opening will be on June 24, 2011.  Located in Fells Point, the restaurant menu includes appetizers, salads, pizzas, and entrees.  It has a very sleek look and would be a place many people in Inner Harbor East may want to go for drinks after work.  Because it was a soft opening, many menu items were not available as the kitchen staff was still learning the recipes.  We arrived without a reservation but the staff was very friendly and seated us quickly.  We ordered pizzas and the mozzarella on mine was very fresh.  The thin pizzas tasted very good and we were impressed.  There is a large bar in the middle of the restaurant and a couple of tv screens which played continuous showings of “A Bronx Tale”.  Continue reading
